![]() ![]() Once binaries have been rid away, one can see that everything can be loved and embraced. ![]() ![]() To dispel time is to dispel the good and bad, the evil and pure, the dark and light. To achieve serenity and peace in life, one has to dispel time. The key to achieving serenity and peace does not lie in the internals or externals. True empathy arises from understanding and knowing that you have made someone feel as upset as you feel in moments of pain and hardship. If someone makes you feel crappy and hurt, think about the times that you have done the same to hurt someone else. True empathy is to understand the pain that you have inflicted on others, as you experience the same pain that has been inflicted on you. Hardship is required to humble oneself and to develop true empathy. Here are some life lessons that I have taken away from reading “Siddhartha”. The book follows the experiences and hardships he encounters at different stages of his life. What makes the book so compelling is how Hesse paints Siddhartha as such an imperfect character who dwells a lot in internal conflict and turmoil (definitely something I can relate to). “Siddhartha” is a book that follows the life of a Brahmin son, Siddhartha, who breaks away from his family to embark on a journey of self-discovery. While stuck in a stay-home quarantine for 2 weeks in a small hostel after coming back from a student exchange program in Sweden, distraught and quickly losing my mind, a friend of mine was kind enough to lend me the book “Siddhartha” by Hermann Hesse. ![]()
